Why Paper

When Paper Circle was conceived in the year 2000, Sara Gilfert had one idea – find a way to share her love and experience of paper and book arts with as wide a circle as possible.  She had spent over 20 years of her life infected with the love of paper and the people worldwide who practice in papermaking and allied arts.  Practice in paper art itself, and association with the Friends of Dard Hunter have had the strongest influences.
Implementing this desire to share meant finding a way to fund an organization, finding people who wanted to learn, and finding people who were willing to govern and administer the enterprise.  It meant setting up her complete studio in a place accessible to the public.  All of these things have come about through various means, some, seemingly, through angelic intervention. Meaning, when a problem in moving to the next step in the process arose, the solutions seemed to come from somewhere not sought – as though gifts!  For all these gifts we are endlessly grateful.
However, this sort of development seems to indicate that the time has come to educate, promote and celebrate the paper and book arts in this corner of the universe.  Please review the history of Paper Circle to learn the process of the enterprise.
