SCHEDULE OF FREE GROUPS/CLASSES

Mondays 10:00am - 11:00am Attending the Tai-Chi classes, which are offered 2 different times during the week, can be an enlightening experience.  Tai Chi is an ancient exercise for health.  Originated in the 11th century by a Taoist sage, the exercise consists of graceful and slow movements that relax and strengthen both body and mind.  Today, Tai Chi is one of the world’s most popular exercises and is practiced by millions of people of all ages.  A professional Tai-Chi instructor who comes in diligently in order to provide this service facilitates the Tai-Chi classes.

10:00am - 12:00pm The SHAC offers a training environment where people are able to learn about the computer in order to help them integrate back into the work place.  Computer Classes that are offered are Basic Computer, Internet and Word.

11:15am - 12:15pm Our writing group allows an individual to learn how to express their thoughts and strengths through writing techniques.  Our facilitator lets you truly think of the wonderful things you have in your mind and create a journal of these ideas on paper.  This group also allows you to utilize the techniques you learn in order to write grants, develop a resume, and understand yourself better.

1:30pm - 3:00pm This group is a structured group that is peer facilitated.  You will be able to learn how to cope with your diagnosis and be provided with ideas and information on how to live on a day by day basis.
Tuesdays 12:00pm - 4:00pm The Arts and Crafts Classes offered have been termed as a healthy and relaxing vessel used for many of members.  These classes offer a wide variety of activities that someone can choose from.  Offered at these classes are leather craft basket weaving, painting, beadwork, and more.  Through classes, you are able to interact and communicate with peers.

1:30pm - 3:00pm These diagnoses are easily comprehended when you are going through this peer facilitated group.  The people who attend will walk out of this group knowing and understanding that there are other people who experience the same things that you are and they will provide you with a warm and comfortable environment.

12:00pm - 1:00pm The Peer Support Group is a non-therapeutic general support group in which members discuss topics such as budgeting, housing, and other problematic topics where clients have useful, unique solutions.  Clients share their ideas and get solutions to life problems.

1:00pm - 2:30pm ‘Recovery For Life’ is an organized 10 to 12 week program showing clients a pathway to recovery.  Topics include stress reduction and different options on how to overcome difficulties in our recovery.

1:30pm - 3:00pm This class is a structured class and is facilitated by a volunteer in the professional field of mental health.  She will give you many ideas and information in how to control your anger and/or anxiety which can occur within your everyday life style.

1:30pm - 3:00pm The ups and downs of every day life can really emotionally and physically drain you.  In this group you will speak with others feeling the same way and you will be able to take back into your every day routine how to manage and maintain your mental health.

Support Groups

The SHAC offers many different support groups. These groups have been offered because the members who come to the SHAC have asked for them specifically. We offer support groups for Schizophrenia/Schizo-affective, Anxiety, Peer Support, Anger Management, and Bi-polar. These groups have evolved because of interest and a wonderful volunteer staff which have dedicated there time to make sure the groups are run professionally and with the utmost respect of the people coming to the group.
